The Plum Island Pink House

An odd tourist attraction or abandoned property doomed for demolition. Along the northern coastline of Massachusetts lies Plum Island beach, not to be mistaken with the New York’s Plum Island. Plum Island beach is a popular spot for beach goers, photographers, and nature enthusiasts alike. As tourists flock to the coast for scenic views, they may come across a secluded, abandonded pink house on the side of the road.

As I pack my bag heading for the Masschussett coast, the sand and ocean breeze aren’t what I’m chasing, but salt. Although it’s decaying, pink appearance may intrigue photographers to capture it’s memory before it’s gone. This house pulled me in for something far more sinister. I’m seeking the story behind the house. Rumors loomed in town that a spiteful ex-husband built this house for his ex-wife amid their divorce. The ex-wife insisted that her new house be an exact replica of her old house. However, her ex-husband had the house built on a secluded salt marsh. Even making the plumbing salt water instead of fresh water. Making it the house that could never be someone’s home….However, this story was never proven to be true, but rumors continue to spread.

The Pink House has recently been in talks of being demolished, but efforts by the group called Support The Pink House have caused delays. It has now become a historic landmark for Plum Island Beach. I’ve had to pleasure of photographing The Pink House on a few occasions, it truely is a unique house, completely isolated, aging with each day.
